Saturday morning work party…

The alarm went off at 7:30 this morning.  I was in a deep sleep, snuggled under the warm covers…definitely not in any hurry to get out of bed.  However, I knew my daughter would be here at 9:00 a.m. and ready to work.  The two of us were tackling my storage room on the lowest level of this condo building.  There are actually condos on that level too, although I definitely would not want to live down there.  The hallway on the lower level appears long and not very brightly lit to me.  My daughter says it reminds her of the hallway in the movie “The Shining”!   I’m glad my condo is on the second floor, but I am happy to have the storage room down there which is about 10′ x 12′ and close to full.

I had enjoyed my previous “studio” but there certainly isn’t room for one here.  Instead, we are setting it up in my daughter’s large basement and I will spend a few days each week at her house – with the two of us sewing and creating whatever our hearts desire.

I had warned her that I had a “boatload” of fabrics and sewing supplies.  The two of us hauled large box after box of fabrics and supplies to her vehicle (thankfully, her husband and older son will be there to carry them in at home for her).  There was a lot of laughter and comedy as we opened each box to discover the contents.  Needless to say, she is very exited about OUR new studio!  😉

Next, comes the process of organizing it all at her house…and then the fun begins!

It is definitely going to be fun sewing together and I will be sure to post some pics of some of the creations. I always love seeing photos of your amazing knitting projects, Tanna!

With gardening and canning over for another year, I’m wanting to sew again. The many years of making garments for myself and my daughter, as well as dozens of shirts for my tall slender son, Gunne Sax dresses for my nieces–are past. My sewing time is now devoted to quilts, curtains and such.. I don’t expect to run out of fabric any time soon–and it could all stand some re-arranging–tasks for a winter day.

What a nice daughter to set up a sewing studio that you both can share! I have two daughters, but neither of them sew, but they do appreciate my efforts. I used to sew all their prom and dance gowns and summer clothes, and I sewed all the bridesmaid dresses for my daughter’s wedding. The marriage didn’t last, but those dresses will last forever. ha ha! Happy sewing, Dianne and I can’t wait to see what beautiful creations you will sew! xx

She is a wonderful daughter for sure! She is excited about all the great fabrics that her Mom is bringing to OUR studio. 😉 Having a “stash” is much more fun this way when I get to share it and create fun things together. All my granddaughters are too young for prom dresses right now but I’m sure that will come in time!

    Dianne,

Happy you found my blog so I could find your’s…what a great idea to intertwine stories of your past with goings on of today. And a sewing/crafting space with your daughter. How fortunate your daughter is! I live 3.5 hrs from my mama and I always wish I was closer to share supper leftovers, ask for sewing advice and let her be a more involved grandma.
