Just wishing…

Everywhere I go these days, I see puppies and dogs that I would like to have.  I am a bonafide dog lover!  I especially like larger dogs, although I do love Bernie.

I’m not really and truly a “cat person”, but I’ve even begun to long for a Ragdoll kitten – from everything I’ve read, they’re practically a puppy!  Evidently, they are easily trained to stay off of countertops.  I want one just like the kitten on the left above with white socks!

And while I’m dreaming about all the pets that I cannot have in my current condo situation, I would also love to have a cockatiel.  I figure we could grow old together.

Ahhh, but this little girl below is who I really and truly would like to find in my Christmas stocking this year!

Just look at that sweet face.

I would name her Emma…

I’ve written several posts over the past few years about my longing for a dog.

The post below is just one of them…

A good thing I’m honest…

It has been an absolutely beautiful day today…complete with sunshine, an incredible blue sky and puffy cotton clouds.  I put my Susan Boyle CD into the player and drove the twenty-five scenic minutes into town to return some videos.  I realize the word “crowd” is relative, but as small towns go, the town was crowded.  It appeared everyone else in town had come up with some excuse or other to be out and about in the sunshine.  Since we all live with five months of rain each year, the sun should signal “go” for each of us here in this small town an hour or so from the Pacific Ocean.

On my way back home, I stopped at the Melrose Country Store to pick up some ice cream to go with the 2 oatmeal raisin cookies and 2 chocolate chip cookies I had rationed us when I picked up Subway subs for us a few minutes earlier.  Hmmm…what is wrong with that picture?  No, don’t tell me.  As I was leaving the Melrose Country Store, two young men held the door open for me.  I smiled and said thanks and started walking to my car.

There he was.  Big, beautiful and yellow.  He was sitting all by himself in the front seat of a red Dodge Ram dual-cab truck in the parking lot of the country store.  He had the perfect block head and I was guessing because of his size and his head that this amazing creature was male.   He looked big and powerful…and, yet, I knew he was probably a gentle bear.  A gentle, labrador retriever bear.  I stopped walking and smiled at him.  He smiled back.  I’m serious.  He was standing in the seat and wagging his tail by then.  We talked for a few minutes.  I told him that I wished he could go home with me.  He thought that was a wonderful idea.  He looked at the door handle as if to say, “well, what are you waiting for?”

All I can say is it’s a good thing I’m honest…

p.s.  Obviously, these aren’t my precious pets (yet) so all pics are courtesy of the internet.

When I lost my 14-year-old hound dog in January, I didn’t think I could bear another dog in his place, but I support a local no-kill shelter and when Addie, the beagle/dachsund, came through, I was hooked. I haven’t been sorry – she’s a wonderful dog. I hope you’re soon able to be in a place where you can have a pet.

Thank you, Lillian…I hope so too! Fourteen years is a long time to have a pet. Our Alex (a Golden Retriever) was 15 when he died. Glad you have Addie!

    Awww Dianne,
I so wish you could get your puppy. I still miss my Casey (a shepherd/lab) and it will be 4 years in July. They just give such un-conditional love – if only we humans could sometimes learn from them.

Right now I have 6 feral cats that I care for. My husband built them a shelter in the corner of the deck so they are protected from the elements when they wish to be and they wait patiently twice a day for their “meal ticket”. I was never a cat person but now I have 6. All from feeding two lonely soles 2 years ago!! The only think I don’t like is that they think I put the patio set cushions out for them ——————–

Just as a PS: It might do your heart good to volunteer (like you have the time, I know!) at a pet shelter or vet office to get your puppy fix. I also have always wanted to raise a service dog – – maybe one day soon.

That’s funny about your being a “meal ticket” – glad they have you! I have actually thought about volunteering – unfortunately, I would probably want to bring them all home with me! I will think about it some more though for sure…

i love animals. like most people, i’m drawn to baby animals more than anything, but mature pets have their place too! my cats are what i’d call pesky teenagers right now…it’s a tough phase. 🙂

Dianne, you and I have a lot in common, I think. I, too, am NOT a cat person, but if offered that gorgeous Ragdoll kitten on the left, I would take it in a heartbeat! And I would REALLY love that puppy!! I would have one if it weren’t for the fact that they can’t be left alone for too long at a time. We kept our granddog, Kenzie, for a week 2 weeks ago and will get her back, along with Maddie and Macie, for 5 days before long. Kenzie is a Pembroke Corgi and is just the sweetest, most well behaved doggie. But I, like you, love the larger breeds. Labs and retrievers are tops!

I think we definitely have a lot in common, Carole! Wesh Pembroke Corgis are adorable! I saw a gorgeous male and female at a dog show a few years back and fell in love with them. That’s pretty cool – the grandkids and the granddog too!

all of the animals in the photos you found are adorable!! I hope you get to satisfy your craving somehow, Dianne. Pets become such a part of your heart…

It is a good thing you are an honest person. 😉 blessings ~ tanna

I’ve always had cats, and am a little bit frightened of dogs. But, oddly, in the last few years I’ve been thinking I might someday want to have a little dog. Whenever that feeling comes up, I turn it over to the universe to arrange if and when it’s right.

But I really wouldn’t want to be without a pet. Our cat Tilly is such a loving presence in the house, and has been a wonderful helper during my daughter’s illness. I remember reading a saying, “I try to live up to my dog’s opinion of me.” It’s true that our pets give us unconditional love and acceptance.

I do hope you will find a way to work with animals or have a pet of your own. x

Thanks, Christine. Oddly enough, I’m a little more leery of most cats and would trust almost any dog! That’s why I would definitely get a kitten and raise it so I would feel comfortable. I think your daughter would love a puppy! 😉

Oh,goodness. I’m glad I’m not the ONLY person who stops to talk to pets when they look friendly. Sometimes I even stop to talk to the ones who aren’t so friendly, just in case they haven’t heard a “friendly” human voice in a while. Maybe they might remember the kindness in the voice of the blonde lady that day. And usually, after a few words, they do stop barking and snarling and sit down and listen to me talk to them. It makes me sad to see doggies in a car or truck with the windows barely down….especially in the summer. I do keep and eye on them just in case they have been left for too long. I’m not scared to call the police to come have a look if they look like they are in danger of overheating. I love animals.

I especially talk to my granddog, Kiana! She really does believe she is one of the grandchildren! Thankfully, the beautiful dog in Oregon was in a truck with all the windows rolled down and, of course, it was a nice Pacific Northwest day. I thought, for just a minute, that he might jump out but he (seriously) just kept looking at the door handle! Smart pup!
