The books on my bedside table…

If you have followed my blogs for a while, then you know that I love to read.  Granted, these days I do watch more television than I have in the past, but I still read a lot too.  My television viewing consists mostly of FBI mysteries (Criminal Minds, Cold Case Files and Law & Order:  Criminal Intent).  I’m a big fan of Vincent D’Onofrio.  At one point in my life, I looked into the FBI (seriously), only to discover that I was too old!  Stop laughing.  My daughter said just last week that I should have been a detective.  I’m really good at solving mysteries.

My bedside table always has a stack of books.  Always.  In the past, that stack of books often included cookbooks.  (My daughter’s does now.)  Not anymore.

In the photo above, you’ll see just a few of my favorite authors represented:  Karen White, Irene Hannon, Karen Harper, Mindy Starns Clark and Randy Singer.  Usually when I find an author that I really like, I read everything he or she has written.  I’m seldom disappointed.

When I finish my stack of books, I check out my personal library for something I have yet to read or head to the local library.  All the libraries here are excellent and I have a card for each one!

My living room “library”…

Resting on the books on my bedside table in the top photo, you will see my little bluebird of happiness…an adorable McCarty pottery bluebird and a precious gift from my late sister, Gerry.  It’s one of my treasures.

I understand your love of books, Dianne. I have so many and love them all. Love your library shelves. I love true crime stories. 48 hours and Dateline are my favorites. It’s a strange fascination…..why people do the things they do. Happy reading! xoxo And Happy Valentine’s Day!

Thank you, Karen. I love a good mystery that’s for sure…not always so much the “true” crime drama because I am reminded “that really happened”. Sometimes, I’m in the mood for a “cozy mystery” by some really good authors who actually also include RECIPES! Authors such as: Katherine Hall Page and Diane Mott Davidson. I’ve actually found some great recipes this way! 😉

Crime stories, mysteries of any kind, or as Evan and I say, murder and mayhem, are our favorites, too. 😉 I’m a little worried about what that says about us. LOL!

but, most of all I enjoy my grandchildren and I’m so happy you are getting to do that! Happy Valentine’s Day! blessings ~ tanna

Dianne, I am usually in the midst of reading more than one book, sometimes several. One of the books I am currently reading is a slim volume by Eudora Welty called “One Writer’s Beginnings.” I happened to come across it while visiting a library in Evansville. There was a bookcase with used books for sale, and this one caught my eye. (I paid all of fifty cents for it! And it’s just like new.) It’s an autobiography in which she relates things from her past to her development as a writer. It’s a very interesting read, and I think you would enjoy it, especially as you are a writer yourself.

I remember reading Eudora Welty’s work when I was an English major at Mississippi College – just South of Eudora Welty’s home in Jackson, Mississippi. Her home there is now a museum. Of course, that was a “few” years ago, so I cannot remember if I read “One Writer’s Beginnings”. I will have to check it out at the library.

Dianne, I’m very interested to read your comment “*all* the libraries”. Do you have different library systems where you live, subscription libraries, university libraries, or…? Here in Scotland (and England) there are a lot of closures of the public libraries to save money, and in some places communities have taken over the library themselves to keep it open. I think libraries are the life blood of a community.

Christine, each of the suburbs of Des Moines (as well as Des Moines) has a very nice, well-stocked public library. You need a separate card for each one. I think it’s about time I return to the library and check out knitting books! 😉

I am into reading mysteries — I often time predict what will happened in the book or movie. And a lot of time I am right on the mark about the ending before getting there – wink! All to fun,, I love reading and grateful for Libraries!
    Hugs
